Whether you're looking to improve your grade on your next test or simply seeking a refresher on math study skills, check out our guide below on studying effectively and efficiently. 1. Pay Attention in Class

You can't do well simply by reading off the textbook; active participation in class is what will get you far. Take notes as your tutor explains the worked solutions, and listen closely for any helpful tips and hints for homework. 2. Understand the Concepts Taught

Hence, it's important to make sure that you understand the principles behind each formula, mathematical term and so on. Your textbook should be able to provide you with adequate explanations; when in doubt, consult your tutor. 3. Practise, Practise, Practise
Image by Steven S on Flickr Practice is key when it comes to math! It's hard work, but it pays off. Aim to practise at least twice a week. Buy a good assessment book with detailed worked solutions to guide you in your learning; practice questions in your textbook are good too. 4. Make Good Notes
Math notes doesn't mean copying chunks of solutions and information off the textbook. Make lists of formulae – these cheatsheets will come in handy for revision. Writing down a list of steps to take when answering a specific question type (e.g. R-formula in trigonometry) will be useful too. 5. Ask Questions

Consult your tutors for extra help or even for extra practice questions. Last but not least, be sure to clear your doubts early – don't leave them hanging, or worse, try to get them cleared the day before your exam.  |
